New collaboration on future landscapes

Our Landscapes will ensure local action in the green transition of the Danish map

The landscapes of the future must be shaped by the people who live in them.

This is the vision behind "Our Landscapes," a new collaboration between Danish Social Innovation Academy, Reos Partners, System Shift, and Human by Nature. Through new collaborations in local areas across Denmark, the partners will create broader local influence and engagement in the ongoing transformation of Danish landscapes.

"OurLandscapes is a national initiative that aims to ensure that the people who live in a given landscape also help shape its future," says Helene Bie Lilleør, founder of Our Landscapes, strategic advisor, and associate partner at Danish Social Innovation Academy.

Strengthening local ownership

The collaboration is part of the Academy's efforts to strengthen collective action in the green transition, including in the transformation of our landscapes. The landscapes of the future are being shaped today through decisions on land use, climate, nature, settlement, and energy. These decisions have great potential for positive change, but also carry the risk of conflict.

"Both in the Green Tripartite and in other processes, we need to involve and activate the local level to a greater extent. This is partly to create ownership and commitment, and partly to develop solutions that can be implemented in practice," says Helene Bie Lilleør.

Specifically, the partners behind Our Landscapes will collaborate with a wide range of local actors to develop future scenarios for local landscapes, identify the actions required for transformation, and support local collective action.

A social transition

The interdisciplinary team is based at Danish Social Innovation Academy has extensive experience with complex change processes, both in Denmark and internationally.

"The green transition is a social transition," says Clara Dawe, head of the secretariat at the Academy for Social Innovation. "If we are to succeed, we need to pool our shared resources, knowledge, and drive. At the same time, we need to expand our vision of a good society and a good life to one where we also live within planetary boundaries. Last but not least, we need to ensure that both the burdens and opportunities of the green transition are distributed fairly."
