The Danish welfare society is built on communities: the cooperative movement, the housing movement, health insurance funds, and our civic associations. Even today, local communities—both large and small—thrive throughout the country. They contribute, for example, to the green transition, democratic participation, better health, and increased well-being.
At the Danish Social Innovation Academy , we Danish Social Innovation Academy toward a national strategy that ensures more people have the opportunity to contribute to the development of society. The key is our collective drive, which is why we are gathering examples of how communities help make our society better. We need you and your community.
The national fundraising campaign “Communities That Make a Difference” was launched at Folkemødet 2026.
You may be coming together to create more wild nature, combat loneliness, improve health in your community, or something else entirely. The only criterion is that you’re coming together to make a positive difference for others, for each other, and for society.
At Folkemødet, the communities expanded both geographically and thematically, ranging from local coffee gatherings to communal meals and musical collaboration in the social sector.
